Biography

Born in Columbus, Ohio, Liz discovered she could sing at age 7 when a babysitter was giving a piano lesson. Liz matched note for note while the sitter was warming up to the scale. At age 9, Liz's father passed away leaving her mother to take care of she and older brother Steve alone. Liz cites her mother as the most important strong female role model in her life. In middle and high school years, Liz took choir passionately and trained classically. Despite arias and soprano trills...Bonnie Raitt, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, The Temptations, Joni Michell, Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, and Bob Dylan were starting to plant their influence. But it wasn't until college at Ohio University that she really became engrossed in the blues and rock'n roll. Fronting a few bands around Athens, OH and playing with local musicians most definately led to most of Liz's current influences. Still figuring out where she wants to go with her music, Liz Pahl is taking her time honing in on her sound. The new songs could fall into an Americana/Folk genre encompassing underlying themes of love and loss.

"Discovering Susan Tedeschi, Jeff Buckley, Neko Case, The Carter Family, Gram Parsons, early Tina Turner, Cat Power, BB King, Patti Smith, Led Zepellin, MC5, Greg Cartwright, The Meters (and so many more...) was and still is integral to my musical foundation. There is just SO much out there to absorb, I feel like I can never get enough."

Liz also cites the local Athens, Ohio music scene as a huge influence. "I have to tell you...this town is full of absolutely amazing musicians, who continuously blow me away weekend after weekend. Luckily I am able to call most of them friends. They inspire me to be a better singer and guitar player. Hell, half of my record and cd collection is because of bands they've turned me on to. At 24, I am just beginning to come into my own as far as creating and writing music. Like I said, there is just so much out there to absorb and be influenced by."

Indeed.
